Preschool and Long Day Care

Clyde Fenton is possibly the only school in the Northern Territory to offer both a Government Preschool and School Council owned Long Day Care on school premises. Both Preschool and Long Day Care have a maximum capacity of 25 children each, ensuring that your child feels at home and builds authentic, supportive relationships to thrive.

We boast a range of facilities and pedagogies to match, including;

  • Clyde Fenton Early Learning embodies Clyde Fenton School's Therapeutic Approach, meaning that your child is always supported in aspects of wellbeing before learning.

    Preschool

Clyde Fenton Preschool is increasingly popular for its small cohort size and quality program focusing holistically on each child's unique strengths, interests, needs and abilities.

Following the NT Preschool Curriculum, children are immersed in a range of investigative, play based learning. Preschoolers also become familiar with routines and transitions to complement formal schooling to come.

Clyde Fenton Preschool is particularly active in the community, with children venturing out at least twice a term to learn about the Katherine town and surrounds. Children are also involved in gardening, cooking, life skills and outdoor education to shape their inquiring and autonomous minds.

    Long Day Care

Clyde Fenton Long Day Care strives to provide high quality education and care for children aged 3-5. We believe that children learn best when they are engaged in meaningful interactions with adults and peers. Because of this, we have a maximum ratio of 10 children per staff member as it maximizes the interactions each child receives.

Each session is lead by a university qualified early childhood professional. The service is also managed by an award winning early childhood teacher.

Our service is fully equipped with a vast array of spaces, furniture, resources and outdoor space. We take pride in engaging children through inquiry based play every day.

    Early Years Learning Program

Children who turn 5 years of age before 30th June can begin Transition at the start of the school year. Usually children have developed a good foundation in preschool and enter Transition with a strong knowledge of school routines, people and expectations. Some children may need to spend longer in preschool to ensure that their school journey is comfortable and they are confident about learning.

To enroll in Transition, parents need to fill in enrolment forms available at the main office of the school and supply a copy of:

The child’s original birth certificate or immigration papers

Record of up-to-date immunisation from health clinic or doctor

A contact phone number for a parent or guardian is to be included when enrolling your child

The education of each individual is a mutual responsibility shared by the student, home, school, community, and society. Clyde Fenton Primary School is committed to fulfilling its share of responsibility by providing appropriate learning opportunities which will encourage all students to grow intellectually, socially, physically, and emotionally toward full development of their potential.

    CFS Mission Statement for Transition

“To provide a quality play based program in the first two years of school at CFS using the guiding principles of the Walker Learning Approach”.

    Guiding Principles

A period of time of each day will be devoted to an engaging, enriching and purposeful session of investigative play.

This play will then form the foundation for the explicit teaching undertaken by the teacher throughout the rest of the day and in the coming weeks.

    Year 1 and 2

CFS believes in the value of in-class support in the early years. Teachers are supported by two tutors for literacy and numeracy lessons, allowing teachers to differentiate instruction, work in smaller groups, and give extra assistance where needed. Our Intensive Language Unit (ILU) caters for early years' students who require extra support with Standard Australian English.
